Sealaska Celebration 2024

Sealaska Celebration is a bi-annual event in Juneau, AK, a gathering of Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian people for 4 days of celebration of our culture.

There were 1600 dancers featured among 36 Dance groups at this year’s celebration. It was powerful, incredible to see our culture thriving. The youth are a driving force pushing forward.

Sealaska Celebration also features a juried Art show, I was honored to have 3 pieces featured, and received an honorable mention for one. Thank you to the Gochman Collection for sending the Wolf Headdress to the show! The show runs thru December in Juneau at the Sealaska Heritage Institute.

The road to celebration involved carving a Bear Pendant for my friend Martin Sensmeier. My goal was to finish the pendant for him to wear in Juneau. Carved out of red pipestone, with abalone inlay.

Gunalcheesh to Sealaska for bringing us all together, so great to connect with so many people. Full of inspiration.
