HEARD MUSEUM - HOLIDAYS AT THE HEARD
For the past 3 Years, the Heard Museum has invited me to be a featured artist at their “Holidays at the Heard” event that takes place just after Christmas. I look forward to it each year. Every artist has been locked down throughout the pandemic with the majority of art shows or events being cancelled, this was refreshing. It was great to connect with people, share the Tlingit art form, and put some of my work on display. Thank you to everyone who came by, and thank you to the Heard Museum for the opportunity!
The Heard Museum in Phoenix was founded in 1929, the Heard Museum has grown in size and stature to become recognized internationally for the quality of its collections, world-class exhibitions, educational programming and its unmatched festivals. Dedicated to the advancement of American Indian art, the Heard successfully presents the stories of American Indian people from a first-person perspective, as well as exhibitions that showcase the beauty and vitality of traditional and contemporary art.
Every show I do, I make a point to bring my carving kit, and do some live carving throughout. I think it’s important to show the process involved in creating an art piece, starting from a block of wood, and sculpting it into a form. This is a Raven that will sit on top of a dance staff I’m currently working on.
